Newfoundland Vs. Ontario: A personal comparative journey

This blog has two parts + bonus blog to it, be sure to bookmark the website for future reading!

You made it to the last part - the BONUS! In this post, I will be talking more about the life and culture, as well as sharing some factors and tips to consider before choosing where to move. These are just suggestions, ultimately choose what is BEST for you!

Comparison of Lifestyle and Culture between Newfoundland and Ontario

When it comes to lifestyle and culture, Newfoundland and Ontario are very different places that are unique and exciting in their own ways. Ontario is known for its big cities and natural beauty (the kind you see in the tourism commercials!), and Newfoundland on the other hand, is known for its small towns, tight-knit communities, and laid-back lifestyle. In the larger cities in Ontario, things move at a faster pace, with people often rushing to get things done. But don’t be fooled like me! This more laid-back lifestyle can be found in rural communities across Canada such as Sault Ste. Marie.

Factors to Consider When Choosing Between Newfoundland and Ontario

Deciding where to live is a big decision, and there are many factors to consider - so be sure to do your research well!

  • First, think about your lifestyle and what you're looking for in a new home. Are you someone who enjoys the outdoors and a slower pace of life? Or, do you prefer the hustle and bustle of a big city?
  • Tip: if you've always been an indoor person, perhaps trying something outside your comfort zone and explore?

  • Consider your job prospects and education. Are there job opportunities in your field in the province you’re interested in?
  • Tip: connect with people in other provinces working in your field, ask questions, network and learn as much as you can before making a major decision.

  • Think about the cost of living. Can you afford to live comfortably in either place?
  • Tip: before moving factor in the cost of living including rent, groceries, travel, phone etc. This will help you assess and negotiate for the right salary package.

  • Finally, consider the many different communities within each province and what they have to offer. Canada is BIG, and although each province has its differences, so does each community within each province.
  • Tip: get a remote role and travel across Canada, live in all the communities and then decide where you want to settle down.

To end, there are things I love about each province that I have lived in and in my opinion, where you want to live can change drastically as you move through the different stages of your life - and that's okay! Ultimately, the end goal is to find a community that is the right fit for you to match your values and goals.
